A lot of backyards are just - there. Grass, maybe some dirt patches, an awkward layout that never quite works for hosting or relaxing. That's exactly what we started with here. The yard had potential, but it wasn't doing anything useful for the homeowners.

Before any paving or building happens, the groundwork has to be right. We brought in a track skid steer to clear and grade the area, making sure the base is level and properly prepped. Skipping this step is how you end up with a patio that shifts, cracks, or drains poorly a few years down the road. We don't skip it.

You can see the layout already staked out across the yard - the curved border form gives you a good sense of how the finished patio will flow. The paver blocks are staged and ready to go. That's not an accident. Good sequencing on a job like this keeps the work moving and avoids mistakes.

This is the part of a renovation that doesn't get much credit - the prep phase. But it's where the real work happens. Getting the grade right, setting the layout, moving material with precision - all of that determines how the finished product holds up over time.

We're making solid progress here, and it's shaping up to be a space the homeowners will actually use. A well-built patio adds function and value to a property. When the layout is planned carefully from the start, the finished result shows it.
