There's something about a front porch that just pulls people in. It's the first thing you see when you pull up to a house, and when it's worn out or falling apart, it changes everything about how the home looks and feels. That's exactly the situation we walked into on this one - an older covered porch that needed a full overhaul from the deck boards down to the stairs.
We stripped it back and rebuilt it right. Fresh cedar boards were laid across the entire porch floor, tight and even. The staircase got a complete rebuild too - new treads, new risers, new everything. The cedar grain on those steps looks sharp against the white painted railings, and that contrast is exactly what makes a porch like this pop from the street.
The covered roof structure and the white-painted spindle railings were kept and cleaned up, which was the right call. No need to replace what's solid. What needed to go, went. What was worth keeping, stayed. That's how you end up with a finished product that looks cohesive instead of pieced together.
The porch swing hung back up. The lattice skirting is clean underneath. And the whole thing just works now - it's a front porch you actually want to sit on. That's the goal every time. Whether it's a full rebuild or just updating what's there, we want the end result to be something the homeowner is proud of every time they pull into the driveway.
